selective catalytic reduction reactions
By treating nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas streams, SCR has been created. Transforming the guilty NOx pollutant into harmless nitrogen and water vapour is its primary goal. Among the technological aspects of an SCR system are its catalyst (for example metal-type catalysts may include tungsten or vanadium) and the use of such a device for promoting the chemical reaction without being eaten up in that process. To monitor and optimize the injection of a reductant such as ammonia or urea into the exhaust stream, sensors and controllers are fitted which is part of the SCR system. This guarantees efficient NOx reduction. From power plants and marine vessels to heavy-duty vehicles and industrial boilers, SCR has wide applications, making it an indispensible tool in the quest for cleaner emissions.
