flue gas desulfurization plant
A model of ready-to-use gas desulphurisation plants.
This is pollution control equipment that collects and neutralizes sulfur particles in the waste gas after coal combustion instead of discharging them directly into the atmosphere.
The technological features of such plants include an absorber tower to which gas is fed by means of a limestone slurry and where reactions occur between sulfur dioxide absorbed in liquid media (eventually forming gypsum) and the absorbent liquid itself.
Referred to as 'wet' flue gas desulphurization, the process is used across the globe and on an extensive basis.
Flue gas desulfurization plants are widely used in power generation, cement production and metallurgy processing, where the burning of coal and other high-sulfur fuels is a common process.
