fgd flue gas desulfurization
Flue Gas Desulfurization, or FGD, is a collection of technologies used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the exhaust flue gases produced by coal-fired power stations.
The major task of FGD is to control the environmental influence of SO2 emissions because of their contribution to acid rain and health problems.
The technological content of FGD systems varies but commonly includes wet scrubbing, dry scrubbing, or seawater scrubbing processes for taking in the SO2.
These systems often contain absorber towers, gypsum dewatering plants and limestone or other reagent preparation units. The FGD system is a cost-effective way to control sulfur emissions in coal-fired power stations as well as other industries.
